CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on, gentle, light-touch, non-invasive technique, developed by osteopathic physician, John E. Upledger. With the application of CST tensions deep in the central nervous system are released so every other system in the body can relax and self-correct. Complementing the body’s natural healing process, it helps you naturally free yourself from pain, stress and discomfort. CST is a fully clothed treatment usually performed on a comfortable massage table. It can be safely used and effective for all ages from newborns to senior citizens.
Functionally, the CranioSacral System is intimately related to the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system, the neuromusculoskeletal system and the endocrine system. It is comprised of the membranes that surround your head and spine. These membranes act as a small hydraulic pump that draws cerebrospinal fluid (a clear fluid) out of the blood, bathing the brain and spinal cord and then returns to the blood supply. This is the way this clear fluid is filtered and renewed. This clear cerebrospinal fluid is important because it supplies nutrients, carries away waste products and acts as a fluid protective covering for the brain and spinal cord. This system extends from the cranium (skull) to the sacrum (tailbone). The circulation of this fluid within the system creates a rhythmic motion that can be palpated throughout the entire body and is used for evaluation and treatment during a CST session.
Due to its gentle application, ability to strengthen resistance to disease and effectiveness for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, CST can be effective and used for all ages. CST is the perfect complement to a medical treatment program, a preventative health care program or a wellness program. CST can help alleviate a wide range of health issues associated with pain and dysfunction including but not limited to:
-Migraines & Headaches
-Chronic Neck & Back Pain
-Motor-Coordination Impairment
-Autism
-Central Nervous System -Disorders
-Orthopedic Problems
-Traumatic Brain and Spinal -Cord Injuries
-Scoliosis
-Learning Disabilities
-Chronic Fatigue
-Emotional Difficulties
-Stress and Tension-Related -Problems
-Fibromyalgia and other -Connective-Tissue Disorders
-Temporomandibular Joint -Syndrome (TMJ)
-Neurovascular or Immune -Disorders
-Post-Traumatic Stress -Disorder
-Post-Surgical Dysfunctions
It is well documented that our emotions have a great impact on how our body functions, and this is greatly due to how receptive bodies are to our feelings. Both physical and emotional trauma can be stored in specific body parts, regions and organs. Trauma that is retained in the body generally has origins which occur against a background dominated by physiologically destructive emotions such as fear, anger or guilt which may have been either acute or chronic. Different emotions affect different parts of the body – organs, tissues, individual cells. When the brain receives negative emotions it sends tension to the related area of the body, that area then sends tension back to the brain resulting in a vicious cycle. Conversely, a physically damaged or imbalanced body can stimulate emotional upset. CST can break this cycle, enhance the health of the body as a whole, and restore emotional balance.
Our aim is to give you the highest quality professional therapeutic treatment that will heal your body, mind and spirit.
